On 9th and 10th Feb­ru­ary we took a group of busi­ness­es over to Seat­ing Mat­ters in Limavady, North­ern Ire­land.

Why?

Because they offer a behind the scenes peak at how they run a lean fac­to­ry.

Lean can often be over com­pli­cat­ed — so it was great to see how it was put into prac­tice on a day to day basis (not just in the­o­ry).

In fact, that was one of the goals of the atten­dees — to see lean in action vs the­o­ry. Oth­er goals for the trip includ­ed:

How does lean apply to cus­tomer ser­vice?

How does apply­ing lean result in more prof­it?

How does lean help you to build the cul­ture you want?

How does lean help you to bring about change in the busi­ness?

How does lean help you to hold peo­ple account­able?

I have to admit — I was a bit ner­vous as to whether we could answer all these (quite big!) ques­tions but I’m delight­ed to say that fol­low­ing the tour every­ones ques­tions were answered (and some!).

It was a tru­ly inspi­ra­tional trip and we’re going to be shar­ing some more learn­ings of our trip over the com­ing weeks.
