What are the identity verification checks?

  • Beginning on the 18th November, 2025 it is going to be a legal requirement for all directors and PSCs of limited companies to verify their identity.
  • From this date all new directors and PSCs will need to verify their identity.
  • For all existing directors and PSCs it will be a gradual process over the year with the check having to be done before any documents are submitted to Companies House. For most people this will be the submission of the confirmation statement.
  • In most cases you will only need to verify your identity once, as when this is done you are provided with a unique personal code.

Can russell + russell do this for me?

To allow us to be able to submit documents to Companies House on behalf of our clients, russell + russell have registered as an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP). Being an ACSP does mean that we could also do the identity checks, however after some research we have discovered the costs involved for software and training is quite significant. We don’t feel right in charging our clients for a service which can be done for free through Companies House, especially when the information you would need to provide us is the same as what you upload to Companies House to do the checks.

How do I do the verification check through Companies House?

The process to verify your identity is relatively simple and we have recorded a Zoom clip and also created step by step instructions to help guide you through the process.

What do you do once you have your personal code?

  • Keep it in a safe place as you may need it in the future.
  • Provide us with a copy of the code as this will allow us to file documents on your behalf.
